Eco-friendly Easter

So Easter's coming. Please reuse your baskets. There is no need to have a new basket every year. It's what's inside that counts. If you don't already have one, you can probably get a used one at the thrift store or a friend with extras and they're just as good.

If it's too late and you've already collected a plethora of baskets from previous years, donate yours or just give them to your friends who might need them for their kids. I know I'm giving two away that people have given me previously.

Same goes for the grass you put inside, reuse it. Buy loose candy, put them in the refillable eggs and then use those eggs to hide. You can use them year after year.

Make sure what does go inside the baskets has the least amount of packaging as possible. Also, try and look for treats that have recycled packaging. I know Cadbury and Nestle are some of the big names trying to be more eco-friendly with their packaging.

As far as dying eggs, which everyone loves to do, I found a great article on less harmful ways we can do that.

Just remember that what's important isn't the new things we buy for our kids each year, it's what we do with them that they'll remember. So go hide those Easter eggs! While you're at it, make a tradition out of sharing what Easter is really about with your children. Make those the things that are special each year and not just the material things.
