Tampax now has a cardboard tampon. Both the wrapper and the applicator can be flushed and are biodegradable.

If you're really dedicated, then there's the Diva Cup or the Keeper. I was unaware that these types of things existed until recently so I have not tried them, nor do I know if I will. I am, however, very interested to hear from some women who have. So, let me know.
